The Urban League of Portland supports and advocates an agenda focused on
economic, political and educational career growth and social progress for African
Americans. We are committed to economic, political and educational development of
Portland's African American Workforce and Business Community through informed
pursuit of the following initiatives:
1. Assisting individuals and families to attain economic empowerment through
employment, homeownership, entrepreneurship, and wealth accumulation.
2. Advocating for policies and programs that ensure full, equitable, and transparent
participation by African Americans in the economic and social mainstream of
society.
3. Assisting with creating future world and community leaders and maintaining
positive role models and diverse cultural images.
4. Ensuring that African-American children are well-educated and prepared to
lead in in the global economy.
The Urban League of Portland's Workforce Development Department works to raise
African-American employment and income levels by offering comprehensive job training
and placement services, career exposure, career advancement, seminars, workshops,
mentoring, coaching and long-term retention strategies.
